New Image More Hysteria
After the release of 'Humanoid' in October of last year, and the style changes in their songs, a large part of their fans was dying to see how the world tour to promote their new album would be like. Hence the surprise was widespread when the tour started, in the beginning of this year, showing off the most expensive and ambitious stage of the band's career. Discover in this article everything about the 'Welcome to Humanoid City' tour as it travels through Europe and the hysteria they cause with each of their performances.
The 'Welcome to Humanoid City' began officially on February 22 in Luxembourg, with the intention to travel across a large amount of places until, probably, the end of the year. The confirmed dates of this tour appear only on the official page of the band, where one can see that they will continue playing in Europe until April. Likewise, they've planned to visit Mexico (country that previously gave them a pleasing impression) in the month of May and it is speculated that between June and July they could come to South America.
The stage scene is similar to a robotic/futuristic city, with many details in the set design and a great display of special effects. "Everything is new, we've prepared this tour a year ago and made sure that all the decision about the production came from us", commented Tom Kaulitz (guitarist) meanwhile his twin Bill adds: "The only thing that is not new on tour are the old songs we play because fans love them".
Presenting this kind of a show requires a great technical display, this is why Tokio Hotel travels through Europe with 11 trucks, 6 buses, 50 team members, and 4 cooks to prepare their favorite dishes. Also, they've taken the security measures necessary for the band and their entourage, with the aim to avoid fan harassment or "stalkers" who would place their tranquility at risk.
The other members (Tom, Georg, and Gustav) have not made too many changes to their outfits, only in their hair (Tom and Gustav) and one or other accessory that is minimum in comparison to everything that the leader and vocalist wears.
Recently, some members of the media compared Bill's look with singer Adam Lambert, suggesting one of the two had copied the other. However, both artists have shown signs of mutual respect and have not given in to controversies. Both have received a lot of influence from the glam style and of diverse artists like David Bowie, which could explain the coincidences in image of these two musical figures.
To place an end to this controversy, it's worth to mention the statements by Gene Simmons (bassist of KISS), who said in an interview that "Tokio Hotel is a respectable group, because they made good music and cared a lot to present a good image".
New Look
Who sticks out in the band for his showy style, is still Bill Kaulitz, who has wanted to dress appropriately for a tour as ostentatious as this one. The clothes he uses have been especially made by the Canadian twins Dan and Dean Caten, designers of the label Dsquared2.
This futuristic-like wardrobe is characterized for using a lot of black color, as well as multiple shoulder pads, diamond appliques and other materials. All according with the concept of the new album and the tour.
Unconditional Support
We don't frequently see so much devotion like fans of Tokio Hotel have for their artists. The shows in various European cities were not only successful in sales, but mobilized the public with several days in advance. Only to see the band in the Palacio de los Deportes in Madrid, dozens of fans camped outside of the venue during more than 10 days.
The fans in Spain endured the low temperatures at night and renounced to their Holy week break, all for standing in line ahead of time and assuring to be the closest as possible to the band. They had everything well organized during the long wait, would take turns and sign the arrival order regularly on a notebook, to avoid misunderstandings.
"Our fans are the best, they have lots of energy, and they always transmit that to us when we are on stage, there is no way we could pay them for everything they've given us", said Bill about the unconditional support from their fans. Meanwhile Tom promises to give his all in every city he visits, for he not only plays the guitar, but also accompanies his brother by playing the piano, not in vain was he rehearsing since November in Hamburg, London, and Luxembourg.
Did you know...
-Tom won the case against the "stalkers" who harassed him during months. They were sent to France and were forbidden to get close to the band. However, the guitarist also had to pay a fine for assaulting one of these girls.
-Gustav also ended well the unfortunate incident in which they hurt his head. His aggressor paid for damages and the drummer decided to donate the money to charity.
-Georg has a girlfriend for a year and every time he can, talks about her and how much he loves her. The 31 of March he turned 23 years old and received wishes from all of his fans.
